Default left channel won't work on JVC integrated amp

I have an old JVC integrated amp that has an issue with the output. Only the right channel will work. It's been checked with different speakers so it is the amp.

I have my turntable hooked up and there is no sound out of the left speaker at all.

When I opened the amp I saw three fuses. I heard that some amps have fuses for the speaker outs but these fuses are not near where the outputs are/wires. one is for ac (using the amp as a power source) and the other two are near the front of the amp on the main board where there are caps, resisters etc..

anyway, I'm just looking for any pointers. It would be great if I could get it working again. It was a decent amp before the channel decided to go one day.

You've got 1 working channel. Work from input to output and check for differences in DC levels between channels.

Be careful, pins can be close together, one slip with the probe, short the wrong 2 together and you can end up with more problems than you started with.

In this series of amps JVC used monolithic output modules like STK060 (JAS55amp) these sometimes pack up and need to be replaced...not too hard, but you need to check the current limiting resisters too they are about 0.22 Ohms maybe 0.33 Ohms, 5watts. Modules are about $29.99 from WES Electronics in Aust. (try ordering through Jaycar, Altronics, one of those.)
You are right. the whole range of JAS amps from JVC were really good clean units. This one is not very powerful as far as I know but very clean sound. It would make a very nice preamp for something MUCH bigger.....Cheers

thanks a lot. I'm not very good with servicing amps so I will save all this info and maybe sometime soon I can find someone I know who can help me do the repair.

Ah ha. There will be someone near by to help for a small fee if you order the parts first. Its a worthwhile fix.
