Default how many amps ?

I am powering up a Spectral DMA 50 after several years down time and need a variac to reform the caps . The amp will deliver 120 watts into 4 ohms. How many amperes does the capacity of the variac need to be?

2 Amps should be sufficient, though probably doesn't need doing.

Getting a variac just for that seems a bit extreme... why not power up using a bulb for mains current limiting, say 100 watt rating if you are worried. That will limit any current surge and allow the caps to reform although as toprepairman says I don't think they will need it either.

The official current draw is around 125 watts quiescent so around 0.5 amps.
