I am building a slightly unusual biamped pair of speakers for my studio.
most of the range will be done with a pair of markaudio alpair 12 powered by LM3875 chipamp.(or something similar, doesnt have to be a chipamp, but 50w or so) the crossover and speaker equalization will be handled by a miniDSP(have already, bought 2 needed 1 for another project) active crossover, The only source is a "sonic|core xite 1" the low end is by a pair of CSS SDX10(have already) woofers, they will handle ~30hz to the crossover point (120 - 250 hz, see what works best) they will be in sealed 24L enclosures. The reason for them is i have a small home studio, and occasionally some of my music gets played elsewhere, and sometimes there are problems with bass i cant really hear properly when tracking. I have event monitors which do not play much below 60 hz, and i wanted to build something around the same size, but with lower bass. i dont really like subwoofers as separate speakers in a studio. To power the SDX10s, I would like to buy a kit, or boards to build a pair of 200 - 300W class B or D amplifiers for the woofers(4 ohms), i have a 600VA +-22v transformer i would like to use, but i dont mind getting something different if that is not suitable. I will hardly ever need that much power, but the efficiency in a closed box is low,and I will be artificially boosting lower frequency, and i would like some headroom. There is a possibility that low bass will be played for extended periods, not that loud, but somehow i feel a paralleled chipamp would not be up to it. I have not done much high power amp building, just a ton of chip amps, but building things isnt a big deal, most of my modular synth is DIY. any ideas? i guess i could just buy some plate amps, but i would prefer something that can be built inside a separate box. best regards N Last edited by neutron7; 1st October 2011 at 01:46 AM. |

Look at the OAudio 300W BASH which is much easier than DIY sub amps believe me. The crossover can be by-passed amongst over features.
http://www.oaudio.com/300W_SUBAMP.html I've put mine in it's own enclosure and not in the sub box. |

Wow that is quite inexpensive, it even includes a power supply.
