Hello Guys,
I just got one of the Adcom 585. I have few questions about this amp. When I power on and off there is a poping noise from the speakers. I read some of the posts it might cause by the bad caps. I open the top and check for any physical sign for the bad caps. I found out there is a Blue cable from the transform "J103" is open but the connector seems to be different. I don't want to just plug in without know what's that blue cable for. "J103" is the 3 Male pins. But the Blue cable only 2 female holes. The "Right" channel distorion light is on. I read some posts that suggestion to check the fuses. I found out one of the fuse from the "Right channal" is blown. Will that one of the reason to cause some pop-ing noise? I'm really new in repair audio equipment. Any suggestions how i can fix this up? or lead to where I can get it for a repair service in Canada? I'm in Winnipeg Manitoba. Thank you very much, Raymond |

I believe that connector is for the optional fan.

Hello CBRworm.
I have read one of your posts from a few years ago about your akai gx-270d R2R. I came across it while I was searching for information on an akai gx-266II I am having trouble with. You sound like you know your electronics and would you be willing to perhaps give me some direction in order me to fix the issue I am having with my unit. Thanks. |

I have this same amp. You might have the bad cap issue if the caps on the input boards have not been replaced yet. I had similar symptoms and the problem started with the caps, but the 'juice' from the caps detroyed a couple other components which shorted a couple transistors and diodes. When I got it up and running, I still had an issue with a turn off thump, which was caused by a bad pair if input transistors.
I can tell you that this is a fairly valuable, very powerful and not very easy amp to work on. Also, there are specific procedures that have been discussed to great depths on this site on how to clean cap electrolytics off of the boards. Also, these amps do not have any speaker protection other than a power supply fuse, so if you don't thoroughly test before hooking up your speakers, you could easily cook them. So if you are not familiar with amp repair, I would highly recommend that you to not attempt to learn on this amp. I believe Anatech is in Canada, but I don't know if he is nearby to you or not. |
