Hi Dan,
Always test at full volume when these controls are present. Balance controls can also be configured as reversed volume controls between the two channels. Once I had a similar problem in something, I forget the make and model. It turned out to be a piece of metal inside the volume control! Go figure, just goes to show you that you have to keep your mind and eyes open. So, check the amount of play in the bearings on all controls. If it's sloppy, the control should be replaced. Also pay attention to the solder connections on all controls and switches. Once you're done all that, pay attention to the wires connecting the various small PCBs to the main board. I'm talking about removing the solder, cleaning the leads and soldering these in again. -Chris
