I have three amplifiers available in my budget. I am running 41/2 inch and 61/2 inch drivers on my desktop.
My options are: Hafler TA1600, ART SLA-1 or Harman Kardon HK-770 |

That's your recommendation? If I double posted, I am sorry. Still need advice.

Oh yeah. I see what you meant. However... I eliminated the AVR254 from my decision. This is a new post requiring an educated and experienced response.

I can do this in 3 clicks ...
-ta-1600 lateral mosfet OP - 60-80W/ch IC front end with small driver stage , all smd construction. laterals are durable and said to have smooth sound. TransNova Hafler TA-1600; TA1600 Power Mosfets -The art-sla Another IC front end with small drivers and 2 pair small sanken outputs (BJT). ![]() WOW , the HK-770 dual mono PS- 2 pair sankens mt-200 outputs - big power (120++), full discrete design. The only issue is that it is older and may need recapping and regreasing. Even if in perfect condition , it is over 20 YO. But , it is by far the only REAL amp of the 3. The hafler would be the best sounding of the 60-100w units , it uses a newer IC and the Lateral mosfets. Just a general overview , I have seen and bought dozens of classic amps. OS

The Hafler is not a IC front end, it is based on the patented Transnova discreet circuit.

I was able to pick up a sealed in plastic HK-770. Would it still need recapping due to it's age? If so, how would I determine which caps are crucial and which brand and type would meet or exceed original capacitors?
Thanks |
