Nakamichi Receiver 1 Remote Failure

Just got an old Nak Receiver 1 with remote. Receiver seems to work OK so far, but the remote does not. I even tried a universal remote with a code that worked on my NAK TA-4A. No dice. Performing a code search yielded no success, either.

I took the remote apart, and with new batteries, I tested the voltage coming out of the LED with and without the power button being depressed. With the button pressed,the voltage moves from 0mv about 103-118 mv, so - that would indicate to me that the remote works, and the issue is on the remote board. Or - could it be something else on the remote?

Could only find an SM for the Receiver 2, not the one I have, which is the Receiver 1. Hopefully the boards are similar if not identical.

I've never come across a remote issue with the fault on the receiver PCB. Is this indicative of an IC failure, or a cap, or ?? If anyone could steer me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

use the camera of your mobile phone it can also "read" infrared ... while pressing any key on the remote against the mobile camera you will see the led lit in cintinious pulse or burst of pulses .

That will be a more proper test than checking simply the voltage on the led .

On the receiver side there is an infrared receiver that sould be a device normaly with 3 pins and at this part there is a preamplifier for the reception and 3 pins are one ground one 5 volt and one infrared output

you may as well verify that all those perfrom properly ... these modules fail but actually not that often ...

make sure that you remote works first before doing other things

in the states there is a very good remote control company that serves also wierd things like naks or teacs and so on and on will try to locate it for you

Thanks for that great tip on testing the remote with a cell phone camera. The LED does light up and pulses on and off. I tried it with other remotes as well. Some remotes pulse, some do not.

Not exactly sure how to test the infrared module on the receiver. I will open it up and check for voltage. Would these module parts be typically available or are they manufacturer-specific?

Opened the Nak to get a look-see. The sensor is a nightmare to get to, what with a ton of wires restricting access to the inside of the front panel. Would have to unplug them all to remove the front panel.

I could test voltages going from the PCB to the remote PCB but I do not have a schematic.

I was able to find online a Nak Receiver 2 Service Manual, not one for the Nak Receiver 1.

Does anyone have one?
