Hope this is in the right place. If not, could someone please move this to the appropriate place? Thnx...
Last night I wanted to kick back and enjoy some music. So I switched on my CD-player and preamp, waited for the pre to come on temperature (tubes...) and switched on my poweramp. Well... I tried to. The big powerswitch on the Threshold S/300 felt 'lame', like there was no mechanical resistance, and the red LED didn't light up. So I said some very bad words and unplugged the powercord. After checking the fuses on the back (they were all good) I plugged in the powercord again and tried the switch again. And it worked! It felt normal and the amp runed on. The Threshold sounded as good as ever, so I enjoyed the music untill bedtime. But now I 'm thinking.... should I be worried? Might this be a sign I'm in for trouble? The amp was revised some years ago. Some small caps were replaced (not the big power caps), bias adjusted and it had a thorough cleaning. According to the tech who did it he didn't find any trouble and he gave the amp a clean bill of health. So why didn't the amp worked when I turned it on the first time? And can I listen as usual or should I have the S/300 checked first? When it finally worked it sounded as good as ever driving my Apogees, so no complaints there. Any advice? |

Thnx for the answer. Unfortunately, according to the manual, the on/off switch isn't a normal mechanical device, but "... a resetable circuit breaker which will also disconnect AC power to the amplifier if a potentially dangerous failure should occur."
