I am looking for tech specs for the Sony SS120A chip amplifier module.
Specfically the external pin connections and if possible the internal schematic diagram. The Sony SS120A looks like and is supposed to be an exact replacement for the Sanken 1050G. (manufacture discontinued...a long time ago) I have the specs for the Sanken 1050G but when I use the same pin connections the Sony product does not work. I am using a split power supply +50/-50 Please HELP! Don |

You must have some info on the Sony to be able to say it looks like an exact replacement.
Maybe if you can post what you have for both we could advise better.

Thanks for writing. Yes I have both modules in hand. The Sankens which I have been using for years but are not longer available and the Sony AA120A which I have just located. I have the pin conections for the Sanken 1050G but they do not work with the Sony product. External pin connections for the Sanken 1050G are as follows, pin 1 n/c Pin 2 Audio in ground Pin 3 Audio in signal pin 4 n/c Pin 5 Power supply negitive -50v dc Pin 6 Feedback capicatior to Pin 2 Pin 7 Output Pin 8 n/c Pin 9 Power supply positive +50v dc Pin 10 n/c Any info you have with regard to the Sony connections would be appreciated Don |

A bit of googling and all I can find is mention of the SS120A being used in a Sony STR6800SD and a Kenwood KA9100.
Haven't turned anything definite up but I have seen reference to the SS120 as being described as a "darlington pack". If you look at the kenwood power amp here, Kenwood KA-9100 | Owners Manual, Service Manual, Schematics, Free Download | HiFi Engine it does use a 10 pin output device they really do appear to be just output devices in the package, the rest of the amp circuitry (that is included with the Sanken) is all discrete and on the amp PCB. Note, the number of the IC in the Kenwood manual is different to SS120 but that is what I have found it referred to as and it is in the 10 pin hybrid package. Edit, Thread with Kenwood mentioned, http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=296250

WOW ! thanks for that information. Yes this module is a "darlington pair" pack and all it is, is a power amp package with only 3 or 4 extenal components. The really good part about the Sanken module was that it was BOTH thermal and short circuit protected. If the Sony SS120A is an exact replacement my best hope is that it will have those same features. I have been in touch with Sony Product Operations Support in New Jersey and the best they could come up with is what you found out about the Sony STR 6800 receiver.....but no manuals or schematics. The receiver is so OLD that they have nothing about it other than it existed, They turned me to their Semi Conductor division in SanDeigo California. I'm still waiting to hear from them. YOUR information about the Kenwood KA9100 is a real bonus if the service manual is still available. Thank you so much for that. I'll check it out now and see what comes up I'll keep you informed if you wish Don |

Hi Don,
From what I turned up the two parts are not the same as you can gather. The link to the Kenwood is a free reputable site, just needs an email address to register and download any manuals. Keep the thread updated if you find anything out

Good Canadian Morning Mooly
Yes I found that out when I downloaded the mannual. Thank you for all your help If you are interested in what we do with these amps, go to www.soundunlimitedsystems.ca While the site does not show the Power amps we build the "Equipment We Use" page will be interesting and if you want a real laugh click on the "History" page Don |
