Is there a way to mix stereo speaker outputs from an amp into a mono speaker output????????

I have searched high and low - any ideas?

This is only possible if You drive the amps with absolutely same signal, and set the output level equal. Some small series resistors at the outputs helps to equal the output current.

Do you want to bridge the amp, or do you merely want a single channal monaural output? For the latter you just need a summing circuit at the input. Check out Rod Elliot's site.

Thanks for the responses.

I have a stereo source going into a stereo amp and want one of the stereo speaker outputs mixed to mono. I hope that clarifies it.

Don´t even think about mixing the output signals!!!!
Mix the input signals as tiroth suggest

You can do this easily, at the input to the amp. Use resistors to sum the signals (don't just jumper the two channels together. Be aware that some music is not mixed to sound good when summed to mono (only real reason for mono sum compatibility was AM radio and AM is not for music anymore). If you notice a hollow kinda-of sound the recording is not mono-compatible.

Interesting proposition.......

I wouldn't try this at home... LOL AND I'd try it on a junk amp but you may be able to connect some DC blocking caps in SERIES with the speaker. Then there is no "DC path" and maybe it would work but I have never done it and wouldn't try it either. The amps may also oscillate and blow up too. I just don't think it will work as the signals driving the speaker may blow it up too. I think I understand what you're trying to do though. I'm with the rest of the world.... Mix at the preamp level.

Let us know what happens!!!!!

Bad idea - I'll throw it in the bin. At least I know now. I don't want to try it and give my amp a heart attack.

I can't do it at input as I need the stereo output at the same time - stereo speakers + passive mono woofer. I'll continue drive it of one channel.
