Default marantz model 250 power amp. Should I fix or make a gainclone out of it

I purchased a Marantz model 250 in 1974. It is made in USA, and the power output is 125 watts per channel. I believe the output transistors are fried. Is it best to restore or use the unit to build another design. any opinions. thanks, Yero

I have a dead one too. Are the heatsinks big enough for an F5?

I would certainly restore a model like that, it is one of Marantz's better amplifiers and will more than likely appreciate as the years go by (assuming it is in good condition aesthetically and internally).

Even though the original output transistors are probably out of production, you should be able to find some NOS (new old stock) ones or some equivalent replacements.

Cool 250M restore only

I would not consider changing the insides of the 250 or 250M. There are not many around that have the insides as per original, so it would be worth it to restore as per original factory specs of the 250(M). You can argue that you can build an imroved interior, but then it's not a 250(M) anymore, really, if you are going to do that, get some sanding paper and sand off the wording on the face plate including the word Marantz and write something like ONKIO on it..
