I have and Electro Voice EV 1144 that I have owned since I bought it in 1967. I am happy that I have kept it all these years. It is an interesting first generation solid state amp.....even has output transformers.
I have a copy of the maintenance manual that does give a schematic and some basic instructions. I do plan to replace the burned out bulbs. Not sure if I can still get them.....If not I may use LEDs. I plan to clean the selector switch and pots. Everything works with the exception of the indicator bulbs which tell which input is selected. Other problem is the small switches along the bottom which are miniature rocker switches. One mutes the speakers for headphone operation. another is stereo/mono, one is tape input. I don't know where to get these. not sure if they can be disassembled and cleaned. I could replace with mini toggles, but I want to keep original. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. |

I too have an amp like yours.
It's a very interesting amp, having so few transistors in its circuit. The transformers you can see inside are not output ones but phase inverters, between drivers and power transistors. The phono circuit has only one transistor, and all in all, it's incredible how it can work with a so little number of transistors. The switches for stereo, speaker on-off and others can be cleaned. With some WD40 and a little brush, and later with compressed air at 4 bars. My sample had all small transistors out of order and I had to change all of them: only power germanium transistors were ok. This amp sounds nice and is powerful, especially if considered its lilliputian -size. If you have the manual with schematic I'd like you could send me. If you need further info, please tell me. My address is tunedguy57 @yahoo.com Thanks in advance regards tunedguy57 |
