No, look at the drain current... 50A on the fqp50n06 versus 18A on the IRF640N. Also much higher RDS(on) for the IRF640N.

Hi
Rdson is not the only issue. First, the last two digits in the name FQP50N06 indicate this part has 60V DS breakdown. The IRF640N is 200V. It appears this is a class H circuit. What is the function of the IRF640? Switching rail or linear outputs? There are 200V FQP components, but FQP is Fairchilds designation for thier TO-220 Q-fet or plainer stripe DMOS, the IRF die structure is a bit different as they are Hexfets. The planer stripe DMOS seem to be more robust, but Cgd is more significant particularly at Vds saturation in the planer stipe components, these differences may or may not be an issue in this circuit. My opinion to you is to view the IRF640N datasheet and look for a more suitable replacement.

They're just rail switches. In the original QSC RMX2450, the IRFZ44 was used. If you can't get the Farichilds, use the IRFZ48 or IRF1407.

uh Huh. Well the IRFZ44 is a much more comperable device to the FQP50N06.
