I have read this threads.
Ultra high performance headphone amplifier QRV09 Quad 303 triple cascade http://www.aes.org/tmpFiles/elib/20110424/1091.pdf Baxandall Super Pair Best topology for no-feedback ClassAB buffer ? four transistor emitter follower (diamond buffer) as power output stage? Who have try this idea? Last edited by tiefbassuebertr; 24th April 2011 at 01:45 PM. |

I'm not understanding your goal - TPA6120 +/-400 mA, +/-13 Vout is sufficient by itself as an output stage for the majority of dynamic headphone loads
only a few have low sensitivity, Z that requires extra Vswing, bridged output doubles V swing and would drive the Audeze LCD-2 to over 120 dB SPL the out of production AKG K1000 and the HE-6 are 2 "audiophile" dynamic headphones that require more V than bridged +/-15 Vsupply op amps can provide for headphones there is no reason to add discrete output unless you need high Vswing - for even the lowest sensitivity dynamic headphones you don't require the current that a triple is used for in power amps |

I don't ask for a headphone amp but for a power amp (for loudspeakers and for driving very low impedance loads, e. g. full range ribbon speakers). This I haven't mentioned at my first post - sorry.

at 400 mA output the TPA6120/THS6012 could drive the output Q directly for ~20 A with hfe ~50 high current BJT output Q (may need to parallel) - triple or Darlington just adds excess poles/delay in the loop
it is always helpful to give load Z, power requirement, supply V specs for amp design advice Last edited by jcx; 24th April 2011 at 05:40 PM. |
