I'm wondering if a balanced input can easily be added to this amp. And if so, do you foresee any problem jumping the connection to create an XLR out as that is how the single ended connection is configured.
I don't have a manual for this amp, and Krell doesn't have one posted either, so I'm wondering what the oddball speaker out connection is. Did Krell have a proprietary speaker cable connection system back then? I can't seem to find any info on that. Thanks. |

I gather you don't like to go Bananas.
Afair, the MKI had dual output terminals to go bi-wired if so desired. The MKII came in two versions with regular screw-me terminals and hide-the-Banana holes, parallel connections in all three versions.

I would like to add an XLR if possible so in a future installation I can move the amp to the basement and nearer to the speaker it will be powering. It's a matter of WAF due to too many large amps to power the 5.1 setup.
I've attached a pic if the back, and looking at the back: a) on the RH side are two RCA's: either one can be used as an input and the other can be used as an output to another amp b) toward the centre are two typical 5 way binding posts c) in either side of the 5 way binding posts are the oddball connections I was asking about |

Do you just need XLR connections or do you actually need balancing too?

You can add a Cordell Balanced input adaptor (jFET buffer) between the new XLR and the existing PCB inputs.
The adaptor provides sufficient current gain to drive the very low input impedance of the -IN pin through the Signal Ground connection.

Best ones there are.
The outer part acts as docking link, then the inner (conducting) part slides out, into the target area and locks itself (sorta how ticks operate on a blood donor). Link i gave you : http://www.fischerconnectors.com/htm...ng-System2.htm In the KMA years, brands as Krell and ML were very much in the spotlights. The Mark Levinson's dudes were very keen on Swiss manufacture Lemo plugs/sockets for interconnects and multistrands, nice exotic touch and plenty extra publicity for the same bucks paid. Those companies spent plenty on ad campaigns in the day, along with loudspeaker brands as Infinity. Not just in audio mags, the target customer profile included classic automobiles & sports cars, yachts, anything other in printing for cash unloaders. Whenever i got me a US big boat glossy mag, it was a done deal it included a Lincoln Continental ad page and some fancy audio page, at the least. Dan d'Man must have figured he could use a countermeasure by adding fancy Swiss lock terminals to the penthouse level monaural series. (maybe just my imagination again)
