Default JVC AX-44 is the bomb!

Wow! I visited my local Goodwill store last week and found a real gem! Jvc Ax-44 2 channel amplifier that puts out 100x2 of clean power! The best part is that I paid $6.95 USD. That's right, less than $7 bucks!
I currently have it hooked up to an old school car sub(ten years old), Rockford Fosgate 10" HE2 dual 4ohm in a ported box.
Ok, my set up is the following: Altec Lansing speakers hooked up to my pc. These pc speakers have a sub-out so I hooked that subout to one channel of the JVC amp and from there the sub is connected. I was skeptical at first that this amp would push the Fosgate but holy cow it makes it thump like crazy!

A lot of that old JVC stuff was really very good and much underrated, certainly a lot better than much junk that passed for audiophile gear.
Decent well sorted circuitry always with fully complementary output stages and substantial power transformers. What's not to like?
Also easy to repair if you blew it up.

Regards
Henry

I've got an RX-801V, it's JVC definitely made pretty nice units back then. Also a 2x100W unit with 'Super-A' (power related active Class-A biasing). The chipamp for the surround is nothing to write home about but 3.5 speaker Dolby Digital isn't either.

People seem to like the 70's units more in terms of vintage value but these units from the 80's are certainly nothing to turn your nose up at either.

Though I find what tops off the charm is really the JVC design of the era, especially these receiver units with the use humongous 9" VFD units, epitiomising the onset of the digital age of the 80's with only frugal use of exposed controls on the unit face.

Henry, thanks man! Glad to know these are easy to fix because I want to keep this receiver for a long time.
