Default Blown outputs? Kenwood KR-4200 receiver

The garage receiver - vintage solid state - just lost most of the left channel volume, and the speaker relay is clicking on/off, even with no load. 1st thought is that it's bad output transistors (original equipment NEC 2SA626/2SD180). A quick visual inspection showed no burned resistors etc. But before I go and order parts, are there ideas on anything else that may have gone wrong?

Also, any suggestions on newer style parts, since that NEC design is really old stuff?

Silently awaiting help.....

Don't try to fix this by recommendations or by guessing. Don't buy parts.

Get the service manual and measure voltages and waveforms so you can do it right. You may have nothing more than a bad connection or maybe something really major, but don't expect us to know without some information.

Thanks for the link. Perfect. Looks like I get to fire up the old EICO VTVM.....

The pic of your KR 5200 looks almost exactly like this 4200. Mine is only 26 W/Channel and not a lot of real fidelity, but it has been used/abused for 20 years without any problems. OK tuner section. Worth fixing, IMO.

Thanks again
