Hi,
According to Sony's manual running the amp in monoblock mode requires 8ohm speakers. That should be no problem for the most ppl, but mine are 4ohm power hungry kappa 100's and the blocks get really hot after an hour listening. The heat isnt a problem to solve if thats the only thing to get things stable for louder listening volumes and for longer times without blowing the amps. So I was wondering if anyone would help me out to tweak the amps impedance lower. Anybody have experience doing this? |

The problem is that there are not enough transistors in the output stage to safely cope with the current required for a 4 ohm load. You say your speakers are "power hungry" - this probably means that they quite often dip to 2 ohms.
Adding fans will help a bit, but it will not keep the output transistors safe, and they will eventually go bang. |
