Does anybody know where I can get a universal PCB, that will take a standard DIL opamp? (no surface mount please!)
I want to build a preamp, but lack the facilities to construct my own PCB. I realise I could design my own PCB and use one of the online vendors to get it made - however at this stage would simply prefer to buy a universal PCB if one is available. TIA.

I haven't seen one, simply because people have different ideas as to what circuits to us the op-amp in, let alone the layout of the circuit on the PCB. However, if it's a simple circuit, you could build "dead bug" style, glue the op-amp upside down onto a baseplate, then directly solder the other components to the legs. This can work extremely well, with very short path lengths, though it does require thinking in an extra dimension to the usual layout technique.

Hello,
Project 88 from ESP should do you. I know it’s the other side of the world, but postage is less than £10 and the wait will allow you time to order the other components! http://sound.westhost.com/project88.htm http://sound.westhost.com/pcb/pricelist.html http://sound.westhost.com/ : ) |

You can use stripboard if you are careful with it

Nightfire Electronic Kits sells a PCB you might want to look at. They call it their Prototype Op Amp IC Circuit Development Board (#1670). Nightfire sells this and other items from their own web site as well as a storefront at eBay.
Main web site product link here. eBay product link here. Image of the schematic for the #1670 board here. |

Veroboard, or copies thereof. This is fine for audio and the lower end of RF.

All electronics has a couple:
SOLDERABLE PERFBOARD, IC PATTERN | AllElectronics.com\ Also check the 2 and 3 hole perfboards Perf Boards | AllElectronics.com Breadboards | AllElectronics.com I know you said no surface mount, but they have one for that too: SMT PATTERNS AND PADS - SOLDERBALE BREADBOARD | AllElectronics.com Just noticed you are in UK. They ship overseas and have no minimum order - but you would have to contact them about shipping. Good luck.
