Default What amp should i go for?

I want something simple that will give me 2x200W into 8ohm, i want to do SS. I also want something quite simple and as small as possible. I was thinking of the QUASI amp for beginners for the simplicity and high power.

Any suggestions?

Edit- because of the design of the chassis i'm using it would be a lot more simple for me to stay away from TO-3, thats the only problem with that amp.

There are several choices, The DX blame series and ostripper's mongrel are two very good performers.

Then theres the designs by Apex audio which are also very good, but mainly designed for PA but are still suitable for home hifi.

Okay thanks, I have some PCBs for the DX blame but they only use one pair of output devices is it possible to add more for increased power?

Do you really need 2x200 watts in 8 ohms ? Even on really inefficient speakers u'll be deaf long before you reach anywhere near this power.

Even my subwoofer is too loud to stand on a 100 watt amplifier.

The new DX boards can be built to the 'supercharged' spec with two pairs of output devices.

They are for a big room.

I think I have used the old revision.

You dont need more than 50-100 watts peak unless its like a club or disco where you need to overvoice people screaming and yelling.

With a bit of wisdom you can use these boards you've got for the Supercharged version (*). You only need to find a way to settle the second output pair and respective resistors (both base and emitter ones). I've done!
Regards,
Max.

Tekko is quite right!
I am becoming almost deaf listening to my original DX Blame ST in full power under 8 ohms load. No distortion, just pleasure!
Cheers,
Max.

Quasi's amp is good , but it is more of a "blaster" (power with no refinement) No beta enhancement ... a working amp , but no refinement. No to-3 here , all to-247/to3p (plastic). The BX of mine is so simple, my daughter put one together in a hour. I does have 8 transistors for the input stage/ current source , but can work between 0C and 60C, 35V to 80V rails and still have under 1mv offset and killer sound. The "poor man's" amp (below) I just finalized can outclass any typical HT receiver for sound AND "kick" and costs under $60USD (2 BX's ,1 PB60X2, and the PS50 power supply). Loud as hell on a 15" 3-way loudspeaker system , puts out about 80+W/8R X2 with NJW21193/4 or the 2sc3263/2sa1294 sankens that are in the prototype.

If you ever want to "explore" just swap out a voltage stage , hear a "leach" or a "symasym" , "blameless" .. etc.

The whole deal below fits in a shoebox with room to spare..
