A relay powered from the rectified DC is all that McIntosh uses on their MC2200/2205. It closes when the voltage rises to the coil voltage.

But what If I want to add DC protection?

I would rather add a handful of inexpensive parts to drive a 3P relay, rather than invest in mounting another relay.

Your needs may be different than mine.

if you think Rudi's creepage distances are bit on the low side, you should compare that to the soft start that came out of Brazil.
It even has power planes for mains voltages that surround some LV pads/traces.

After some communications with the designer/supplier of these boards,
he decided to do a recall on all boards that already have been delivered,
and he will redesign the boards to comply with safety-regulations.
