Fwiw, they are essentially identical... I have them, but they are not scanned in...
Iirc, the 12 and 20 went with split passive EQ for the phono... The power amps just scale up... _-_-bear

I have seen a schematic from an older Spectral phonostage. I will copy it and post it tomorrow.

Bear...did you have some of the poweramps you could scan?
I am very curious to see what topology they are using.

I would think that OLD schematics might be available, and allowable to allow repair, etc, but NEW schematics are probably forbidden. We designers don't appreciate other people looking and copying our latest efforts. We like to get some milage out of them first.

unless you've gone to software style "shrink wrap" licensing the presumption is that the sale of a physical object puts anything that can be discovered by inspection into the public domain - except what is covered by patents - trade secrets are not legally protected from discovery by reverse engineering
copyright does protect a manufacturer’s service schematic – but the manufacturer cannot control one drawn up by someone else the DMCA is controversial in the prohibition of the long established common law right of reverse engineering but applies only to software |

Let's just say that contemporary designers do not always share their schematics willingly, and they should not be forced to do so. It has happened to me in the past, people citing repairability, but it is usually based on capturing intellectual information from others though some legal flim-flam, rather than true need.
Personally, I would just lOVE to have Keith Johnson's latest power amp schematics, but I am not going to ask for them. It would be unprofessional and probably a losing proposition to even try. |
