hi guaxian,

Yes I have a DX amp, and I really like the PCB layout you have there.

BTW: I think you posted in the wrong forum.

regards

Default heheheh... do you like your board Greg?

this one was funny

Have you any information about the Dx amplifier Greg?

I suggest you to try one of them.... they are nice!

If you have any need to know something about this amplifier.... search for Greg Erskine home pages....they belong to Greg Erskine and may be helpfull.

Here is the adress, give yourself a chance to know a nice home page:

Very nice , just one thing ... having drivers with separate heatsinks makes for more unpredictable bias. If room/case is cool , drivers will have X Vbe ,with a Hot case or room this will change.

For a type 2 EF the temperature coefficient of both drivers and outputs should be the same. If they are not , amp will be underbiased in the winter , normal or overbiased in the summer (that is if you originally set the bias in the summer).

I did this .. learned the hard way ..Just something to consider.

Default Good idea!

Despite the 10,000++ posts about DX amps (ha! most posts in DX threads are not about DX amps!), there has never been a thread from the DX builders about which one they have and how they like it. Good idea, I hope everyone who has built one will post their comments.

About post #1- do they still make green transistors? Are those vintage? And what is your opinion?? Apparently you built a DX so what do you think? This is almost like trolling....

I almost never built the DX, I did not start until over a year after getting my boards, and the original websites and people were gone. And Carlos had moved on to his next designs and lost interest in this old design. And at that time I thought Carlos was a little...unique? I did not know if I liked him or not. He does not answer questions directly all the time as you can see, but he does answer everything in some manner. For some reason I decided to do a build and wow, I'm shocked at how good this amp is.

Link- DX HRII Amp.

Let me say that this amp is simply wonderful to listen to, has much more power than I ever imagined and will still sound good at low and very low volume. The amp does get a little warmer than I thought it would so heatsinking is a plus.

Of all the amps I have made, and I have made a lot of amplifiers, this is the one I listen to the most.

-It kills the gainclones, and it makes the F5 look like a waste of time.
- No it doesn't sound quite as good as the big ExtremA and Krell class A amps, but its very very close. Its also efficient and I dont need to run class A if I'm just going to listen to some background music or tunes for about an hour. But its not just for background music. That would insult the amp. Its a great amp to sit down and listen to for hours. It most closely mirrors my Krell clone, it has deep bass and crisp highs, but is not as organic overall as the Krell. The ExtremA is more analytical and forward. The DX has a silent background and no noise; its good for efficient speakers as well as inefficient speakers.

It is interesting that hundreds of pcbs were made for Krell KSA 50 clones, Krell KSA 100 clones, Aleph X and SymAsym. Yet how many people made these? There are like 5 working Aleph X's and 2 or so KSA100s, less than 20 KSA 50s. A bunch of SymAsyms and less than 10 "Krills".

DX Corp has very rare PCB offerings and yet still people actually go through the effort to make their own PCBs. It is an indicator as to how good these really are (and to good DX marketing). I think that there was a PCB group buy from germany recently and hope that we will have a lot of new shareholders in DX corp reporting in.

You really owe it to yourself to build a DX and see just how good they are. Please build and get 1 share of common stock in DX corp. I built so many amps and listen to DX the most, it is the best compromise between many design factors. Build DX. Despite the fact that there are no fancy logos or big name designers, no pain when you touch with your finger. No pain in your back when you lift the amp. No pain in your electric bill. No hard to fine exotic parts. No need to play loud to sound good; no fancy audio precision graphs.

lgreen, do you prefer the sound of the DX Amp to the SymAsym's? How different in terms of sonic signature are these two amps?

Thanks.
