Question differences in low/mid price H/T proc and 2 channel amp

I am thinking of purchasing an adcom gfp 750 and augmenting it with a $600'ish receiver. I also thought about just getting some thing like a rotel 1066 or audio refinment H/T Processor. My preference is for better music play back over movies. Any thoughts with this gear and price range ? What might the down sides of the Adcom be?
