I have a late 70`s Peavey mace, it has a solid state preamp and 6 6L6 power tubes. I would like to get a little more distortion out of the amp not heavy metal type but a little more than it has now. I have ordered some tung sol tubes with early breakup, and was wondering what else could I do to add a little more fire to the boiler? I`m not a pedal fan, I prefer the direct approach. I have thought about lowering the R1 value and upping the R3 to increase signal but not real sure what that will bring and with the age of the amp don`t want to blow the Opamp.
