Default Signal Capacitors - Japan vs Thailand

I recently brought Elna Cerafines capacitors from a large trader. Advertised was a picture of the old Cerafine, with the deep red sleeve, and I received a capacitor with a black sleeve, that had Elna Cerafine printed on it, but sounded like total crap.

I want to try the ELNA SILMIC II, but after looking around it appears there are different versions of this Capacitor; an original Japan version (brown sleeve) , and a new Thai version (darker sleeve). Can anybody confirm my theory, that the new 'Thai)' caps are bulls8t, and the original old Japanese versions, are the good stuff. If this proves to be correct, are there ANY current production capacitors that sound any good in the signal path?

It could well be that this "lage trader" has been unwittingly selling fakes. Check them against data sheets from Elna.

Yea, I guess if you are color blind, and had not listened to them, it could be hard to tell the difference

Hi, thanks, I noted that.

I wonder if it could be that Elna shifted their manufacturing plant from Japan to Thailand?

Would you like to give us a hint on who the “large trader” is?

The Elna Cerafine and Silmic,s have tinned copper pin, s and are thus very simple to test with a speaker magnet.
