Default LME49880 JFET Input Op-Amp

Is anyone experimenting with the LME49880 Dual JFET Input Audio Operational Amplifier, I tried it in my basic single stage active EQ MM phono pre-amp today and it is amazingly quiet even compared to the LME49720 that I have been using.
IMO The E-Series chips from NS are truly incredible, and this one is no exception!

I give it a try this week-end, replacing output of a NAIM CD5i and a CREEK 50 MKII.
I'm a little disappointed as LME49880 don't sound as transparent and linear as other National LME's.
I'm back to LME49720HA who, to my ears, is by far superior to euphoric LME49880 at least in this application (output LPF).

Regards,
Tibi

Tibi, do you have an opinion about LM4562 - is that really identical with LME49720?

I don have any clue if these are identical in terms of internal chip layout and schematic, but their datasheet parameters are identical and also sound very similar.

I just rolled in a set of LME49880 in my Marchand XM9 two-way crossover. The XM9 requires JFET dual op-amps, and so far the LME49880 is by far the best that I've tried to date. Granted, I have only rolled a few op-amps through the XM9: OPA2134PA, AD8066, and OPA1642. The OPA1642 sounds like a refined OPA2134PA which is not my taste, and the AD8066 sounds like everyone else's experiences: giant sound stage, highly detialed, bright top-end - all of which sounds great at first listen, but I find it to be too much over a short amount of time. The LME49880 hits a perfect balance in this system which now allows me to listen to music and stop rolling op-amps for a while.

Is there a single version for LME49880 - jfet input?
As far I know LME49870 is single but bipolar input.

I had the chance to carefully listen LME49880 in several implementations. In case of dual op-amps I keep my preference to LME49860, LME49720 and LM4562.

Tibi

Just watch out when mounting the LME49880. It has an exposed thermal plate on the underside and won't mount to a standard BrownDog without the possibility of shorting out the lands that run under the chip. I know, I found out the hard way.

Anyway, I found some BrownDog-like adapters on eBay that support an SO8 with an exposed thermal-plate.

Search eBay for: "SOIC-8 to DIP-8 converter SMD, #14".

On these adapters you have to add your own pins which is no fun and they are not as compact as BrownDogs, but they do work well.
