If anyone has a Parasound DR-40 that is stuck in the standby mode (red LED), check resistor R020. The value of this resistor should be 12K ohms. I recently repaired a receiver with this problem and the resistor had changed to 330K ohms. This caused insufficient voltage to the switching transistor that energizes the standby/operate relay. This resistor is located on the left side of the circuit board near the relay and main line fuse. Shorted audio output/driver transistors can also cause the unit to stay in standby.

Change the caps in this area or replace them all in this receiver. DON'T change that resistor its suppose to be a 330K ohm.
2,10uF @ 25v and 1, 45uF @ 10v They are part of the delay / timing circuit. The radio isn't marked for this but the amp section fuses are 5 Amps. Do your normal checks of this radio; outputs, FUSES, check your caps etc.. |
