"although this stuff is simply not used in consumer grade equipment"

I should probably take that back. I would not be surprised at all to find some form of ECL in the latest gaming graphics cards. In your laptop, no.

Well my 100W Class A amp offsets its running costs by my not needing the heating up so high.

Also nearly all line level amplification is Class A.

If anyone would be putting forth such a ruling, it would be the US DOE!! Look them up and look for yourself. These CFR documents are a real pain in the a$$ to read.
So as a work around, sell your Class-A amplifier as a space heater instead!!

In 45 years of being in electronics I have never used a class a amplifier.
It has always been class ab or d.
I have used them mostly for band and disco work.

I think Joe Rasmussen was not referring to the Power and Driver transistors but "everything else" .... literally.
Including "all other" transistors in your "Class AB" power amps, all in preamps, in radios , TVs, inside Op Amps, the works.

Default Automobile have also low efficiency.... internal combustion

engines are 10 percent efficient...the rest is heat.

They must ban automobiles first.

Hopefully they are banned as they a waste if time! But no the police will not be knocking on doors investigating class A amplifier usage. It will however most probably be banned for commercial products. In the UK standby has to be less than half a watt and will have to go not standby after 30mins or so if the unit is not being used.
