Light source was covered with a screen and nobody could see it. I must say I was dissapointed as I relly WISHED that (as in amp story) a energy efficient source win...but...the winner was ordinary 100W bulb.
I think it has to do with the larger bandwidth of light produced by incandescence bulbs compared to fluorescent. Funny, the light bulb similar to the one first designed by Edison is still the best. Go figure. I despise governments creating laws dictating we must buy those efficient bulbs that do in fact contain toxic materials that will in fact end up in your water supply eventually, in order to prop up certain industrial companies that contribute to their coffers. Bribery and politics......don't tell me there is a difference....I'm not that blind.

As for the wasted energy, if folks reduced (increase in summer) the thermostat in their homes by a couple of degrees, the wasted energy from incandescent light bulbs would be all but negligent. As Bonsai pointed out, power transmission inefficiencies are quite significant. You never here this pointed out by those who tout those efficiency bulbs.

I find this quite naieve. Have you actually lived in another country to see for yourself, or do you just follow the US media?

He is certainly not following the US media.....that's for sure.

The question is, what system is compatible with human nature?

PS:

point of note, the thread may be drifting a bit close to the ambiguous political realm........

Rather than being naive, I believe Anatoliy is offering us a glimpse of our own societies we cannot see ourselves..... after all, if you are steeped in a culture, you rarely see the principal changes.

Keep sharing your POV, Anatoliy.....

Hmmmm, well I would consider Fox News, for the most part, more center or center left. They still run the same stories using the same language and even the same specific words as the other network talking heads. There are some popular media outlets, not mainstream though, that I would consider on the right but I doubt you've heard of them. And I'm not referring to Rush the Golfer. Most media in the US is affiliated with the same corporations as the mainstream so you still really get mass produced cheap white bread-like opinions. Very few are actually independently syndicated.

A halogen lamp runs with a hotter filament than an 'ordinary' bulb. I wonder if they'd look nicer if you ran them at say 75% of rated voltage to cool them down.

I suspect this will shorten their life - there is some complex chemistry/physics involving a reaction between the evaporated filament, the iodine, and the glass at a particular temperature. But I've never tested it.

Fox News is owned by Rupert Murdoch and there is no way that any of his media outlets could be described as even remotely 'left-of-centre'.
Murdoch is just about as left-wing as Mussolini.
