Yes, this is for real and quite brilliant too.

If you think of a "normal" amp, this is a big storage tank of energy (hold in the capacitors of the power supply) and some kind of controlling device (tubes or BJT or similar) with which you let that energy out in the load.

The magnetic amp consists in its simplest form of two input transformators one in each direction, one output transformator and a couple of rectifying diodes. The power supply is recitfified and the energy is stored as a saturated magnetic field in the input trafos. Then when the input signal is let on, one of the input trafos is in phase with the input signal and one is out of phase. With the "in-phase" trafo nothing will happen since it is already saturated and can't store more energy. The other one though, which is out of phase, must decrease its magnetic field which will induce a current sent to the output transformer's primary which will induce a current on the secondary where the load is connected.

There is also this one:
AMPLIFICATORE VERO - ROYAL DEVICE
Price is more earthly, around 4000€.

The main issue is the very low input impedance. dunno the MagAmp, but it includes a tubes preamp, so it doesnt matter.

The distortion won't win any prizes. Are there any spectra?

The idea might be brilliant but the price is ridiculous and I think so is the sound. When this was patented in the early 60's the use was for controlling motors !
