Sony STR-DE545...repair or junk?

Have been using this Sony home audio amp for about 10 years. For a couple of weeks it had been clicking (turning off and on very quickly), then this morning it stopped play audio and displayed "Protection".

This was accompanied by a burning smell...which I'm assuming is not good.

So whadya think? Worth taking it in to have fuses checked or maybe costing $100-$150 to repair blown power or transistors or capacitors etc?

Or should I just junk it and buy a new amp?

(If the shutoff/protection mechanism hadn't been followed by a burning smell I would probably feel better about trying to have it repaired..)

Depends strongly on what kind of repair support you can get. Don't take it to a TV repair guy!

The clicking was a sign of a problem to begin with. Check all the speaker connections and make sure there are no shorts, loose strands of wire etc.

Does the amp come out of Protection if you power it up with no speakers connected?
