Hello all,
I have an old Sony STR DE-525. It just died and I though the smart folks here could help me out. I'd like to know if the problem sounds familiar, if I should get it repaired, if I could repair it myself or if I need a new amp. Basically, what it does is it will start up and give the familiar warm-up click, but usually I get no sound from any of the inputs or tuner. Other times, it will start working with one of the inputs (say CD), but it keeps outputting that signal no matter which input is selected. So if I hit DVD it's still outputting the CD signal. Most times I get no signal at all. All fuses are intact. I have unhooked the amp from everything and am monitoring through headphones so I don't think it's a short. So, any ideas? Thanks! |

If I had to guess, the IC responsible for input selection has fried. Knowing Sony, it will be a custom part, and it'll be surface mount.
