Default What is your development / prototype process?

This is an ignorant question, but for development of an amplifier for personal use (zero commercial intent), what is your process for development?

For example, do you routinely simulate in SPICE or some variant, test on a breadboard, and prototype a PCB, or something else? Skip the breadboarding?

Does the process change if your goal is a minor update of an existing design?

Also, do you develop the design as separate modules, i.e., input, VAS, driver and output, etc.?
