i have a old phase linear 200 series 2 amp and i want to upgrade it. i have already done upgraded the capacitors to 33,000uf and i want to upgrade the outputs to make it better able to drive 4 ohm loads and maybe 2 ohms and also ditch the protection circuit junk. what parts can i upgrade the outputs with. i have read around and i am unsure of whether the new ON-Semi parts will work. if anyone can tell me which parts will work. i understand the TO-3 case and such but I have been told that the ft is to high or something on the new parts?
Thanks much Brendan

yeah im 100% sure on that. i have seen the parts myself. and the amp got shorted out once at a good power level and it goes into some weird protect mode where it just pops over and over. and the schematic i have shows it tohttp://byrne.isa-geek.com/200.pdf

yeah i was thinking about the 400, sorry, i know the 400's don't have protection at all, and it can push a 2 & 4 ohm load with no problems.
Why not just go on ebay and buy a amplifier that can do it ? like a older carver or nad or adcom etc etc ? What is this amp being used for ? J' |

400s and 700s both have almost the same VI limiters as the 200 schematic shown.

The amp was going to be used for subwoofer duty. and i have the amp. it was just replaced with a adcom GFA-555 so i figure use it to run my subs that are currently being run by a 300w amp that i built that is just a mess and a bunch of wires. but to run it i need to bridge it into 4 ohms. now that i think about it that presents a 2 ohm load to each amp channel.... ohh and another reason to not buy another one. im a poor college student and it looks nice with the wood case...
