Default Which amp? -and how - for a ribbon speaker

Hi All
I'm seeking some opinions or advice from the learned out there.

I'm seeking to modify my triamped speaker setup to incorporate a larger ribbon top with my Scan speak revelator mids and dynaudio subs.

Crossover is via a behringer dcx2496

Currently the tweeter is a DIY prototype using a Decca type matching Transfomer.
I would like to construct a larger tweeter to extend range down through midrange and as far down as it can go.

The issue is that i would like to consider a "direct drive" amp for the ribbon which will be in the order of 30" in length ( I have enough Neo magnets to construct it)

Options are :
1. Use existing DIY amps Hafler DH-200 or Aleph 5 , either, with a resistor in series with the ribbon to raise impedance to something other than a short.

2 Attempt direct drive with no resistor - but from reading it seems this may not be a wonderful idea...

3. See how well the small existing matching transformer goes in handling more power - typically in the midrange and upper bass.

I've tried option 1 with a 1.5ohm resistor and it seems to work fine at first listening on the Hafler (which supposedly can lump 10A into a short) , 4 ohm resistor also worked ok.

Option 2 I'm a bit hesitant about trying.- not wanting sparks etc.

Any comments ? -Particularly low impedance loading of the amps.

In terms of the crossover frequency to the ribbon - i can dial in what i want with the behringer - until the ribbon sounds lousy or it breaks.

many thanks in advance

George

Oh and yes the prototype ribbon tweeter works fine , but makes the revelator sound lacking.....hence the intention to upgrade
