Attention car amp geeks! PPI PC-2150 got it with some heat damage on the batt (+) side of the power plug ( melted plastic ). Amp saw some hard use or poor power supply. Tested it with mutimeter and test tone cd (1khz ) and one channel has 11% les AC voltage than the other using a CDA-7995 at volume 15. I inverted the RCA's to make sure it wasn't the deck. I opened it up and found a blown gate resistor on one bank of fet's. Changed the fet and resistor and repair held up. There was an improvement in overall performance but the 11% diff remained. Using Green Day's Americon idiot at the same volume setting my cheapie Jensen 6X9"s ( amp at 1/2 gain ) were stressed. I cannot hear a difference in volume between the two channels ( probably because i'm old and half deaf ) but it's a much larger difference than I've seen in other amps with a single gain. I have several other PPI's and the diff is usually about 2% or 3%. No other visible damage in the amp and all fet's and bjt's check out similar on the board. Any ideas? Thanks, Ace

You are measuring HF oscillations, that's why a gate stopper was burnt.
