The IGBT amp is an update of an earlier Elektor amp called the HEXFET amp which uses the same circuit with reduced supply rails and changes in a couple of resistor values; uses IRF9540 and 540 on the output. Find the schematic and use the Mosfets to quick check your assembly without burning your pocket too much.
Finally, I too had problems with the Hexfet version itself and gave up after some time. However, there are a few people in this forum who have successfully made the Hexfet amp. All the best.
