Hoping for some help..
I've got a separate poweramp connected to my main poweramp and would like that to start up as I switch on the main poweramp. I am thinking it should not be that difficult to get the signal of the speaker output on the main amp and somehow get it to a relay that switch the AC line on the second amp. I see this feature on a few car amps and was hoping you guys could point me to a supplier or a curcuit that I could use. ?? Thanks/Michael |

You might want to take a look at the thread titled "Remote start for DIY sub amp"
It seems to be a similar subject and it might help you out. |

Don't make things too complicated.
Buy one of these, they are cheap 80DKK /10€ , and get the job done. http://www.lokalenergi.dk/Files/Bill.../tv_skinne.jpg

Nrik,
This sure would be helpful for my adcom gfa-555II amp that has no 12v trigger! Looking at it I guess its from Germany or something? Is there anything like it that works on 120v in the usa that is cheap and can handle large amounts of current?? I dont want to go buy another panamax that will do this for my amp.

No - its from Denmark, and everbody are using them for everything.
I am sure it is available all over ecology-oriented Europe, but I don't know about USA. Everybody in the world should use these to cut back wasted standby energy.

yea I agree, but from looking at the plugs its not for 120vac...And the only thing I know of that will turn things on and off like that is panamax or monster cable surge suppressors line conditioners and they are about 300 to 400 bucks.

SSR's are a real handy device, and can be triggered with a DC signal from 2 to 32V. you can usually get them dirt cheap from surplus parts dealers, but even their new prices aren't ridiculous.....

well that ssr would really do the job, I found one for 9 bucks that handels 40a at 120vac. Question I see how to hookup the dc trigger, and I guess u would just run a piece of romax to the top 2 screws and then to a wall outlet to plug the amp into???

the AC "contacts" would be in series with the line, preferably on the "hot" (black wire) side. the DC input could be anything, for instance a 9V battery and a toggle switch. if you're running more than about 10% of the rated current of the SSR, i recommend you heat sink it. you will notice the bottom of the SSR is a large metal plate, which is the heat sinking surface. i've seen them just bolted to a metal chassis box with some heat sink grease under them. the switch elements are MOSFETs, so they don't generate very large amounts of heat, but heat sinking is always a good idea
