I have the opportunity to buy a ec aw 250 dmb very cheap beacuase of a blown output transistor. I have not actually seen the amp. I just wonder if anyone in this forum have experience with this amp and know if there is anything else that can be blown beside the output transistors. Maybe it is not smart to buy it anyway.
The amp is about 12 years... |

I haven't heard of this amp, but generally speaking it's VERY LIKELY that more components are blown. Output transistors don't typically die unless they are somehow overloaded. And worse, once they die they tend to short out causing other components to die. Of course the amount of damage depends on the amp's protection circuitry.
If you're asking whether replacing the dead output transistor will fix it, probably not. ..Todd |

Thank you for the reply. It is a Electrocompaniet amplifier, made in Norway....

I have the schematics, and the parts to fix it. I`m located in Hokksund, and I`m in the book.

Sometimes the output transistors take other devices with them. I usually pull all transistors and test them on a multimeter for hfe and shorts. While the transistors are out I check all resistor values. Check capacitors for shorts too. Given the age of the amp then it would be wise to replace all electrolytic capacitors.
