I've been searching and lurking for quite some time on this forum. I've have been holding back on moving to DIY because I was never quite sure a DIY Amplifier would sound as good as a commercial i.e. McIntosh, Classe, Mark Levinson... ...even now I have a doubt.

...I've decided to use the Aussie Amplifiers nxV500 modules for a pair of mono blocks, along with the loudspeaker protection and soft start modules. For the power supply I was planning on using the Mundorf 47,000uF 80V capacitors. For input capacitors the Mundorf Mcap Supreme 3.9uF.

The toroidal will be a 800va with 55vac secondary windings.

The pair of amplifiers will be used to power two speakers the B&W 802D's and Sonus Faber Auditor M.

Preamplifier and CD player will be the Classe CP-500 and a CDP-101.

My question is to those experienced DIYers is this design going to come upto the same level as the commercial amplifiers? Is it worth the investment?

the 55Vac transformer does not match the 80Vdc capacitors you have listed.

The maximum voltage from a 230:55+55Vac transformer will be approximately :
{mains voltage / 230 * 55 * sqrt(2) * [1+regulation/100] } - diode drop.
~88.8Vdc when the transformer is delivering very low output current and being fed with 240Vac + 6% tolerance.

A 50Vac transformer may push the 80Vdc smoothing caps to over voltage on a few rare occasions. 100Vdc capacitors will suit transformers upto 60+60Vac.

the voltage aside, what about the sound quality of the modules compared to a commercial amplifier like classe, mcintosh or mark levinson?
