Help: plate amp blown - need help to fix

Hi

I have a blown amp module from a Digitech cs2457 jaycar spec sub

Symptoms: Fuses blow as power is applied after the toroid
Speaker is blown into a crunchy voicecoil mess
caps are blown - atleast one of them.
relay has scorch marks inside.

Is it worth trying to fix this or could there be something else blown apart from the capacitors.

If i try and replace capaciters would i have a fighting chance? Would the fuse blow because of this?

I have a replacement 4 ohm driver to go in (sony car sub) will do the job for now.

would the torroid be ok? or could that have bit the dust also.

depends on where the fuse is. if its after the torroid, it is probably ok. if its before the torriod, it needs checked.

You could test the toroid easy enough by hooking it up with the secondaries disconnected and seeing if the specified 40V AC is still coming out. I'd recommend doing this through an incandescent bulb in series with the Live wire to limit any fault current. Before you do this, you should test to see if there is any conductivity between primary and secondary windings. If there is, bin it as it's dangerous.

Those caps are well shot, and to produce that kind of damage you can guarantee the output transistors and drivers will also be shot. The bridge rectifier may also have blown (it seems under rated) and that's what took the caps out. As for the rest, you'd have to pull the parts and test.

One pair of outputs (I guess they're MOSFETs) seems silly at that kind of voltage, for sub amp duty. The relay obviously wasn't rated to break the current either.

yes both fuses blow after the toroid. The one before located at the plug is ok.

I guess this is for the spare parts bin then.

Could I replace this with an amp module from 41hz.com?

What wuold be a good replacement?
