Question Amplifier -adding extra output devices

Is it possible to add an additional pair of darlingtons to the output of the above amplifier to increase it's ruggedness

Good idea...will reduce distortion also....might be difficult to implement if you've already done the PCB..... would recommend a driver between second,and third stages, with resistively cross-coupled emitters...rather than a garden variety darlington.

The dual slope SOA protection is not bad......could be improved though..
