What DIY amplifiers are recommended for Floorstanding speakers
from Von Schweikert like the VR-4SR?

The sound preference is very warm, with hugh 3d soundstage, that will make the singers to be in the room with presence. Smooth and detailed treble, and deep powerful bass.

The amplifer need to play pretty versatile geners of music.
like jazz, trance, pop, rock, ethnic, House, R&B...

von Schweikerts
often has good SPL

which makes them suitable to many many power amps
from 10 watt and all the way up
as long amplifier can match the high quality of these vonSch great speakers

easier to find a good amplifier, that is good enough for VonSchweikert
than to find loudspeakers with like quality as those of him, Mr. Schweikert

For me, the example you posted is quite an adventurous amplifier to build. But you do get a pcb and some related parts which makes construction easier and the outcome less risky. I'd be wanting to know how good the support for this is - and their discussion site was down this morning when I checked.

One question I'd ask myself, is would I be interested in bi-amping ? Your speaker has a 4 ohm woofer which will be a major hog on the amplifier. The Mids and Tweeter are 8 ohms. This would suggest a woofer amp, and separate mid/tweeter amp. Since the speaker has a cross-over already you could start off without an active XO, leave that for a future project. Some of the more experienced guys here will have a better opinion on this suggestion than I.

Some DIY amps to consider that I believe would be well supported from this site

There are more, most people here have been around amplifiers longer than I and can make better recommendations.

and take another look at Aspen, I think Hugh has stopped selling kits you can DIY, but he has AKSA 100 listed as still available as a kit on his website and I'd hate for you to miss that one if it's available:

sorry, pretty sure it's not a kit anymore. But a ready built module may still be a very good option. You will still have plenty of DIY to do ! (power supply design and fabrication, volume control if no preamp, chasis, signal routing etc.)

If you looking for a finished AKSA 100 Nirvana amplifier, I am selling one:

For very reasonable price you get a pair of special made toroid transformers all packed in strong and very beautiful WAF friendly case...

In my experience...

The DIY Krell KSA-50 is fantastic driving high resolution speakers like WP5.1 and VS 4-jrs. I would recommend it highly. Boards are available but the build is difficult since its a big class A monster.

I have not tried the others- do not go with a gainclone or Aleph, these did not sing with my VS speakers.

I would like to try that Aska 100 but since its already made it would lack the 'diy' feeling that I am looking for. But on the plus side it would probably work!

 thanks for link to those von Schweikert
VR-4SR MkII Specifications
and here is Manual for downoload
http://www.vonschweikert.com/techspecs/ownermanuals/VR-4SR_Mk2.pdf
There, in manual from von Schwekert, might be some hint to what Amplifiers will suit.

They do not only LOOK great ... they SOUND great ... compared to most diy audio built speakers :D
And Deserves the picture:

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
