Hello to all from a new member.
I have a nice Pioneer SX-838 with a problem and I wonder if there is anyone out there that can help me with it. Anything I connect to it (Turntable, CD player, Tape deck), works flawlessly on both channels. The problem I have is with the FM section. I seem to have a much weaker output from the right side than the left and this only happens when I use the FM tuner. I tried cleaning the push button switches with High end gold contact cleaner and that seemed to help for a few weeks, but eventually the problem came back. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thank You Kindly, Bruce |

Do the contact cleaner thing again. If it works for a few more weeks, or days, you'll know those switches are worn out beyond the point where cleaning will help.
The trick will be, finding those switches. You may have to "rig" something behind the panel. Tricky, but not undo-able. P.S. If those are the switches I think they are, they were silver-plated. Bad idea. The part of the switch contact that protrudes through the circuit board will actually be black from oxidation. They can be disassembled and polished, but its tricky and labor-intensive. |

Hi Bruce,
I strongly recommend you try posting over at Audiokarma on the Pioneer forum. There are some real Pioneer fans in that forum, some of whom are techs who will have worked on many of these units. This type of issue may have happened a number of times on other similar units and therefore could be a known problem with a resolved fix already worked out. Cheers Stuey |
