IMHO, you should acquire some experimental and theoretical introduction using some book like those written by Howard M. Berlin e.g. OP-AMP Circuits and Principles (SAMS). He wrote several books (also on filters CMOS, PLL, …) and these are rewarding as you will understand what he writes and you will get good experimental results. Next you could try to produce some nice PCB with some of your working circuit …
The theoretical part that will lead you to produce some working amplifier will (slowly) follow next, as you will have questions without answer that will have to be solved. But you will have already some experience in order to go further. Skilled people did do many efforts and spent much time to be what they are now.
If you want to produce at once some amp without getting knowledge, you will have to buy some all including kit. This is not a so good idea as you will loose much fun.

For a beginner in electronics (like me), the best book I found is the Tab Electronics Guide To Understanding Electricity and Electronics, by Randy Slone.
I teaches analog electronics based almost entirely on amplifier circuits like the ones you see here. You learn about long tail pairs, constant current sources, bootstraps, compensation, biasing, load impedance, powers supplies, etc. It gets you past the very important basics.
This book also has some very useful starter projects, like a regulated variable bench power supply that is perfect for constructing amps.
Once past the beginning stage, read a "construction thread" here, like the DX Amplifier thread. They are full of great information. And build a project in one of these threads. Just let us know what type of project you're most interested in and we'll show you where to find it.
