Olá Luis,

Audiophile systems don't like equalizers... Neither me!

You need it to correct bass levels?

Um abraço

Anyway Luis,

I personally would always suggest a parametric one.

...will look up my old work,...built one once...very nice !
Sold it because good recordings and good audio gear don't need 'em.

Luis,

How are your walls? Empty? Do you have large windows?
These contribute to a awfull sound.
Maybe the problem is your listening room.
I had that problem and was solved with some simple techniques

edit:
or maybe more than simple techniques

A quick Google search turned up a bunch of schematics. IMO, the reason everybody jumped on other solutions is that the things that are typically wrong can't be fixed with an equalizer. Still, if you can't do anything else, it's better than doing nothing. Any equalizer will be a bank of filters, and it's up to you to simply substitute better components. Filters like very high quality film capacitors and good op-amps. I'd use the National LME parts. I used to have a Soundcraftsman equalizer, and I think that used LC filters. The problem there is finding decent inductors. I'd stick with the usual RC circuits. As I remember, I spend hours adjusting the thing, driving my wife crazy. When I got rid of it, she swore I'd never own another equalizer.

Many equalizers share a similar topology: a series of bandpass filters with adjustable gain and built around an operational amplifier to spare the use of inductors.
National Semiconductor has many examples as applications of high quality operational amplifiers.

Luis, if you are going to 'equalize' audio signals (yes, wife factor is important), please read Rane's documentation: http://www.rane.com/library.html
Search for 'equalizers' near the end...
It's a good starting point.
