Hi all. I bought an Arcam CD72 second hand from a seller on ebay about 2-3 months ago. Quite often...discs will skip back to start of track or jump AND make a horrible cackling sound also. It seems to be worse on track 1 of CDS for some reason, but can happen anytime.
I have tried a cd lens cleaner. I previously had a Marantz Cd 6000 OSE which I know had a problem with playing copied discs, hence why I bought the Arcam. I think i have may have noticed something, but it could easily be nothing. It seems to act up mainly on track one, and seems to behave (for the most part after going for a while) and i got to thinking, is it maybe something to do with not being warmend up?? Any help or theories welcome

More than likely, the laser is on the way out.
Luckily, I belive they are Sony mechanisms and pretty easy to get hold of. Arcam should send you the service manual if you ask them. |

Cool. To be honest CD lens cleaners are usually crap and do more harm than good. A cotton bud and alcohol is my preferred method
![]() Was the last owner a smoker? You always know when you open it up and it stinks of nicotine inside... smokers kill cd players really easily. Not only does the lens get gunked up, but the stuff settles into the focussing coils and screws them. |
