IGBT amp for direct drive of Electrostatics?

I seem to remember Acoustat making an amplifier that used TV horizontal output tubes to provide sufficient output voltage to directly drive (no step-up transformers) electrostatic speakers.

Every once in a while I'll check to see whether there are any semiconductors with high enough voltage ratings to build such an amp. To my surprise, Mouser has some. They're Eupec IGBT's. They're rated to 6300V, and 400A... main downside is their $8000 a piece price tag!

Any ideas on more reasonable choices for such a project?

Thanks,
Paul
