Waht would be the proper configuration to make a adapter to go from a 15K stereo output from a CD player to a summed 600 ohm balanced input to the next device in a chain?
I don't want to use a Y adapter. |

inverting opamp with two summing resistors on the input.
Is the 600ohm connection really 600r?

Its really 600 ohm.
Didn't want to use an op amp. I was thinking a passive circuit using resistors. |

Hi Joe!
I would try a pair of 1K resistors, one on each of the 'hot' outputs of the RCA, into the 600R input 'hot'. The 'cold' of the 600R input I would return to the RCA common ground through a 560R. Depending on how close to 600R input impedance actaually is, we will have a loss on the order of about 10dB. The 1K resistors will prevent the CD player output stage from driving too hard on signals that are not common to both channels. A transformer could be employed if full isolation is needed (ground loop), but it will have a very low output (mic level). http://www.edcorusa.com/products/couplers/s2m-3.html
